Steph's Packed Lunch tipped to be axed after show registers zero viewers

Steph McGovern's new show could be facing the boot, bookies say, after it failed to record a single viewer at one point earlier this week.

Steph's Packed Lunch, which airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 12:30pm, suffered a major blow during Tuesday's show after ratings as 12:56pm saw zero viewers tuning in.

The show features a mix of celeb guests, cooking segments, real-life features and stories in the headlines.

Steph's already been joined by the likes of Vogue Williams, Lady Leshurr, Gemma Atkinson and Matt Lucas.

Now bookies Labdrokes have slashed odds that Channel 4 will opt to ditch the show altogether.

Odds are now at 5/1 that the daytime show is destined for the axe.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: "With very low viewing figures it's not out of the question Channel 4 have a rethink."

Channel 4 said of the ratings blow: "On Tuesday, Steph's Packed Lunch attracted an average audience of 87,000 viewers from 12.30pm – 2.10pm and drew 204,000 at its peak.

"Daytime shows always take time to build their audience.

"Steph has brought a blast of energy to our daytime line-up and we're delighted with the live shows the team has produced."

Ahead of its launch earlier this month, Steph admitted she was nervous because if it didn't work out, it would be on her shoulders.

"Of course I'm nervous," she told, "That's also why I love it.

"I'm someone who loves live telly, pushing myself. But when your name's on the tin, there's no one else to blame if it's rubbish.

"If it's rubbish, it's my fault."

Steph jumped ship at BBC Breakfast late last year as she announced she'd landed her own show at Channel 4.

A spanner was thrown in the works with lockdown, but Steph wasn't phased and filmed The Steph Show from her own home.

She eventually told fans that she'd opted to round up the lockdown show "to have a break and give my family our home back."

"The proper programme will be launching when the Leeds studio is sorted," she added, "I may still be wearing slippers."

Production for Steph's Packed Lunch got underway as soon as restrictions permitted.
