Steph's Packed Lunch fans say that Eurovision's Sam Ryder is 'the best entry we have had in years'

TikTok star and UK Eurovision entry Sam Ryder appeared on the Channel 4 show Steph's Packed Lunch to talk about his victory hopes and preparing for the Grand Final on Saturday (14th May).

Steph's Packed Lunch's official Twitter account posted a photo of him with the caption: "ARE WE GOING TO SCORE NIL POINTS? Today Eurovision hopeful Sam Ryder will be joining us live from Turin."

Many fans of the show disagreed with the comment, with one even saying that Sam is 'the best entry we have had in years.'

@jiminiesmeow said on Twitter: "why start with such a negative trope as "are we gonna score nil points"? this sort of thing is exactly why attitudes in the uk towards eurovision are what they are."

@BritishBC said: "We are NOT scoring NIL POINTS this year that’s for sure!" @luvchick1 typed: "Best entry we have had in years. If Europe don't vote for this they really are bat sh*t crazy."

During his interview, Sam said that he was 'stoked' and 'so grateful for the opportunity' to represent the UK, and said that the atmosphere was 'alive' over in Turin.

Steph continued to ask him how he stays away from the political side of Eurovision and any tips for keeping himself distracted.

He said: "I am not going into this with any kind of expectation. I love singing, it brings me the most joy in the world. A number on the scoreboard is completely irrelevant."

@FlopsyPickle said on Twitter: " @SamRyderMusic seems like such a lovely guy, bet he’s great fun to hangout with. I think he’ll do really well on Saturday."

Sam is currently sitting in second place as the favourite to win Eurovision with his song Space Man. He shot to fame after covering hits with his extraordinary voice during lockdown, catching the attention of Justin Bieber and Sia.

The second semi-final will take place tonight, presented by Rylan and radio presenter Scott Mills on BBC One, before Graham Norton takes over for the final on the 14th May.
