Steph McGovern is leaving the BBC Breakfast sofa behind to launch a new Channel 4 daytime show.
Starting in spring 2020, The Steph Show will be broadcast live from Leeds during the week.
The new programme will mix entertainment, lifestyle and current affairs with the presenter, who is currently expecting her first child, talking to guests from the worlds of showbiz, politics and beyond.
“I’m really chuffed to be creating my own live show with Channel 4 in Leeds,” McGovern said.
“It’s going to be nerve-wracking, but there’s nothing I love more than finding out what makes people tick, whether it’s a famous face or someone we haven't met yet who has a cracking story to tell.
“This is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to get started next year. Just a small matter of having a baby first!”
Gavin Allen, head of BBC News Output hailed McGovern, who has appeared on BBC Breakfast since 2010, as “a terrific broadcaster.”
“We are sad to see Steph leave the BBC Breakfast sofa and I know she will be missed by her colleagues and the team in Salford,” he said.
“Steph is a terrific broadcaster and we wish her the very best with her new arrival and future show.”
Her Breakfast colleagues shared congratulatory messages on Twitter, with Naga Munchetty re-tweeting Channel 4’s announcement and adding: “Well done @stephbreakfast.”
Dan Walker wrote: “She will be a big loss but she’ll also be fantastic at her new gig and we wish her all the best.
“Well done @stephbreakfast (I imagine you’ll have to change that now) Consistently brilliant.”
