Steph McGovern leaves BBC Breakfast for own Channel 4 entertainment show

Steph McGovern has left BBC Breakfast after bagging her own show on Channel 4 .

The presenter will make the switch to the rival broadcaster in Spring 2020 for new daily live programme, The Steph Show.

Steph will leave Salford - where BBC Breakfast is filmed - and head to Leeds to present from the home of Channel 4's new national HQ.

Of her new role, the 37-year-old said: "I'm really chuffed to be creating my own live show with Channel 4 in Leeds.

Steph has been on BBC Breakfast since 2011 (BBC)

"It's going to be nerve-wracking, but there's nothing I love more than finding out what makes people tick, whether it's a famous face or someone we haven't met yet who has a cracking story to tell.

"This is a dream come true for me and I can't wait to get started next year. Just a small matter of having a baby first!"

According to the broadcaster, The Steph Show will be a mix of entertainment, lifestyle and "light" current affairs with plenty of famous guests.

The mum-to-be will also be joined by a well-known co-host each week as they talk about the days topics in front of a live audience.

Fellow Breakfast presenter Dan Walker was one of the first to congratulate Steph on the news, describing her move as a "big loss."

He tweeted: "She will be a big loss but she'll also be fantastic at her new gig and we wish her all the best.

"Well done @stephbreakfast (I imagine you’ll have to change that now) Consistently brilliant."

Gavin Allen, head of BBC News Output, also said: "We are sad to see Steph leave the BBC Breakfast sofa and I know she will be missed by her colleagues and the team in Salford.

"Steph is a terrific broadcaster and we wish her the very best with her new arrival and future show."

Steph, who announced she was expecting her first child in July, has been a presenter on the BBC programme since 2011.

She has also recently filmed a new BBC1 prime-time series, Easy Ways To Live Well, alongside celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.
