Steph Curry: ‘Stop reminding me’ that I’m the oldest guy on the roster

The Golden State Warriors saved the best for last, so Stephen Curry stepped to the microphone for the final interview segment of their 2019-20 Media Day.

When asked about whether he has adopted a different approach to leadership now that he’s the oldest guy on the team, Curry snapped, playfully: “Stop reminding me!”

“I wake up every day with a smile on my face,” he added.

Also noting that he’s “still young” and still in his prime, with many more basketball years a head, Curry says he misses the veterans who departed in free agency simply because they were older.

“I do miss Shaun [Livingston] and Andre [Iguodala] for that reason, though,” Curry said.

With Kevin Durant now in the Eastern Conference and Klay Thompson sidelined perhaps for the season, questions arose about Curry’s potential playing time. During his media time, coach Steve Kerr suggested that Curry should be expected to play more minutes.

Of his expected playing time in the 2019-20 season, Curry sai:

Forty-eight minutes, 82 games. Pretty much confirmed by Coach Kerr just a minute ago.

While a joke, Curry’s minutes should be concerned about keeping Curry healthy, especially since it lost two starters in the Finals to devastating injuries.

Now the “elder statesman” on the Warriors, Curry said his focus is to “set the tone for what our DNA is here and what we do to be successful.”

But doing it in the team’s new digs will still take some getting used to, apparently.

“Even being in this room is weird,” Curry said, of the Chase Center media room.
