Steph Curry reveals thought process before costly missed layup

Steph Curry missed a potential game-tying shot against the Denver Nuggets. The Golden State Warriors star was tasked with evening the score and potentially forcing overtime against the current NBA champions. However, the veteran guard failed to get enough lift on his release, leading the ball to bounce off the back rim.

Curry has hit big buckets throughout his career. He’s used to the pressure of the moment. Sometimes, those shots just don’t fall. The 35-year-old discussed his thought process on his shot attempt when he spoke with the media after the game.

“Once I got by him (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope) I liked the shot I took,” Curry said. “I’m not afraid to take it. I’m not afraid of what happens. If it goes down, we get a stop, go to overtime. Last thing I wanted was to kind of rush a three that might not be the best look…I just kind of made the play that I thought was the right one. We’ll live with that shot.”

With their latest loss, the Warriors move to 6-3 on the season. They currently sit fourth in the Western Conference. Curry is unlikely to be phased by his miss despite the final few seconds that followed. He’s been in big game situations throughout his career; a regular-season contest against Denver in November won’t be enough to play on his mind.

Nevertheless, the Warriors will likely want to bounce back into the win column as quickly as possible. Seeding will be important for the aging franchise. It may be too soon to check the standings every morning, but putting the framework for a high-seeded season in place now certainly wouldn’t hurt.
