Steph Curry pays tribute to Breonna Taylor with shoes at celebrity golf tournament

In the first round of the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, the Golden State Warriors point guard honored Breonna Taylor and the Black Lives Matter movement. On a pair of special signature basketball sneakers converted into golf shoes, Taylor’s name was striped across Stephen Curry’s shoes.

On March 13, Taylor died in her own home after being shot eight times by Louisville police while enforcing a no-knock search warrant. Months later, the officers involved have yet to be arrested. The deaths of George Floyd and Taylor have sparked protests and outrage for justice across the country.

Along with Taylor’s name and a voting emblem, “#BlackLivesMatter” and “say her name” were displayed on Curry’s shoes.

After the first round in Lake Tahoe, Curry spoke about using the tournament as an opportunity to celebrate Taylor’s life.

Obviously, not to forget Breonna Taylor, in terms of finding justice for her. As life goes on, we’re all using our platforms to shed light on the injustices that are going on. And I wanted to use this opportunity to celebrate her life and continue the impact I think that everybody is trying to have in terms of continuing this meaningful conversation of how we make change for ourselves, the next generation and our kids.

After the tournament, Curry is set to donate his golf shoes from the American Century Championship to the Black Lives Matter organization. In the second round, Curry is slated to tee off at 9:45 a.m. PT with NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr.
