Steph Curry makes bold claim heading into new Warriors season

Steph Curry will enter his 15th season for the Golden State Warriors when the NBA tips off in October. At the age of 35, Curry is still one of the league’s elite guards and a clear-cut top-10 player in the NBA. Yet, at this late juncture of his career, you would expect Curry to be on the decline.

With an offensive game that is based on skill rather than athleticism and a commitment to taking care of his body, Curry could continue playing deep into his late thirties. In fact, during a recent interview with Geoff Bennett of PBS News Hour, the superstar point guard revealed his belief that he’s still in his prime.

“I still feel like I’m in the prime of my career, in a sense of what I’m able to accomplish,” Curry told Bennett.

The statistics back up Curry’s claim. Last season, the superstar guard averaged 29.4 points per game, an average that ranks third in his career, behind his 32 points per game in 2020-21 and his 30.1 points per game in 2015-16. In terms of accuracy, Curry had one of his most prolific seasons from 3-Point range, shooting 42.7% on 11.4 attempts per game.

This summer, Mike Dunleavy and the Warriors front office have made some significant moves to strengthen Golden State’s roster. It’s clear everyone within the organization is gearing up for another run at a championship.

With Curry still challenging for the biggest prize in basketball, it’s fair to expect another big season from both him and his veteran teammates. And if Curry is still in his prime like he claims, the Warriors have a good shot at raising another banner in the Chase Center in 2024.
