Steph Curry gifts Charlotte’s Carole Hoefener Center with a major upgrade

Charlotte usually is all a-buzz when Stephen Curry comes to town, but the sightings of the whole Curry clan for the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend has spun the city into a frenzy.

North Carolina loves basketball and it has loved Dell Curry, Steph’s father, going back to the 10 years he played in Charlotte during his NBA career. Now, the whole family is together again in their hometown, including Sonya (Steph’s mother), Seth (Steph’s younger brother) and Sydel (younger sister). No family outing would be complete, however, without Ayesha, Steph’s wife, and their adorable kids.

But the Currys did not descend on the city empty-handed, with dreams of simply gracing fans with their presence or wowing them on the court during All-Star events. They came bearing gifts that will serve the Charlotte community for years to come.

Carole Hoefener Center gets an upgrade

Courtesy of the Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation — in partnership with Under Armour and Chase, with “guidance from the Charlotte Housing Authority and program support from the NBA Players’ Association” — the Carole Hoefener Center in the heart of Uptown Charlotte has undergone a major renovation.

According to Steph, the Carole Hoefener Center was chosen for this project because of the diverse ways it supports the city:

We chose the Carole Hoefener Center because their priorities are similar to my family’s priorities: equal opportunities for education, access to and more knowledge about nutrition and wellness and having a safe and inspiring place to play. I am excited to see my hometown community engage in the new space, and we deeply believe in its ongoing impact.

The “state-of-the-art upgrades” feature “a brand new education space courtesy of Chase and a refurbished basketball gym from Under Armour.”

The refurbished kitchen includes a copy of Ayesha’s cookbook, The Seasoned Life, from which local children prepared a meal and served to their benefactors during the unveiling.
