In an interview with The Athletic‘s Marcus Thompson following last week’s official ribbon-cutting, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry said he has already moved across the Bay to live closer to the team’s new Chase Center home.
Curry said the team’s move “became real in terms of this is where the new home is” after the official unveiling. Before, it was a “skeleton” that he and others may not have been able to visualize. Now, it is the state-of-the-art work space that was promised.
The three-time NBA champion calls it, “Pretty special.”
Of particular interest to Curry is Chase Center’s “player campus” that unifies the team’s daily operations, “the flow of everything and the attention to detail on a lot of stuff.”
Having the practice facility — including Al Attles Court — at the same location as the games should prove beneficial to everyone in terms of adjusting to the new digs. He identified the technology in the arena as state-of-the-art and considers the locker room, weight room, rehab center and court entrance to be impeccably designed.
But seeing is believing. During the Warriors’ farewell tour of Oakland and Oracle Arena last season, the move didn’t fully sink in. Now, the change is real.
“All last year, it was about Oracle, knowing this was an inevitability, it was going to happen,” Curry said. “Once you see this, it is legit.”
The Warriors play their first Chase Center game on Oct. 5, a preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
