Steph Curry and D’Angelo Russell skip into locker room after first win

The Golden State Warriors lost their first two games of the season, but a possible trend upward showed Monday night.

The Warriors defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 134-123 to earn their first win of the season. Some of the Warriors’ enthusiasm could be seen on the faces of Steph Curry and D’Angelo Russell, who hopped into the locker room with smiles, per a video on Twitter from Poor Man’s Commish.

Curry and Russell had one cool sequence during the fourth quarter. Curry saved the ball off Russell’s miss shot, and then he and the Warriors worked to get it back to Russell. Russell went to the baseline corner for another try, and Curry hit him with a behind-the-back pass.

The two guards were the Warriors’ top two scoring leaders, combining for 50 points. Damion Lee scored a career-high 23 points coming the bench, and three other players scored in double figures.

Curry had a team-high 11 assists, and Draymond Green had a triple-double with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Warriors haven’t shot well so far this season, but Monday night was their best shooting outing of the first three games. They shot a season-high 49% from the field and 40% from three.

With the Warriors picking up this win, the young players could especially have a boost in confidence. Rookie guard Jordan Poole had his first career start, and he scored 13 points and shot 3-of-5 from the 3-point line.

Golden State will look to build off this win Wednesday, when they’ll begin a four-game homestand against the Phoenix Suns.
