Stepaside Garda Station to reopen after nine years

The Stepaside Garda Station is set to reopen on March 9, it was announced yesterday.

The station will run a fully operational 24-7 policing service and the public office will open from 7am to 9pm daily after being closed for nine years.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris announced the news at the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Joint Policing Committee meeting.

The station will include one Sergeant, 15 gardaí, and a roads policing unit assigned to operate from the station.

This will bring the number operational garda stations in the country to 567.

Locals had previously called for the station to be reopened after the area was hit by a spate of car break-ins.

In January,  a number of cars had been broken into at Stepaside Park, and residents living in the Cainfort Estate, also in Stepaside, had also reported similar incidents within the estate.

Local TD Shane Ross said he has contacted gardai to address the issue - and took the opportunity to remind residents that Stepaside garda station is due to re-open in a number of weeks.

He said: "It has been brought to my attention that a number of cars in Stepaside Park were broken into overnight at around 5am. If anyone has any information or CCTV footage please contact Dundrum Garda Station at 01 666 5600.

"My office was also contacted on December 23rd by a number of residents from Cairnfort Estate in Stepaside regarding cars being broken into. I contacted Blackrock Garda Station to highlight the issue, please see their response below.

"Thankfully Stepaside Garda Station will reopen in the coming weeks!"
