'Step too far' - Nottingham Forest 'target' urged to snub City Ground transfer

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has been urged to join Scottish champions Celtic by former England international Darren Bent, snubbing a move to join Sabri Lamouchi's Nottingham Forest.

The 33-year-old has been linked with moves to join both Forest and Derby County with both sides keen to bolster their attacking options this month.

Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United have also been linked.

Sharp has expressed his desire to remain in the steel city beyond the end of the transfer window but reports continue to link him with a Blades exit.

But interest from Celtic has caught Bent's eye, who has urged his countryman to consider a move north of the border to see out his final playing days winning trophies at Parkhead.

Sharp told Football Insider: “He’s had a great career playing in the lower leagues, scoring a lot of goals.

“I think maybe the Premier League has been a step too far for him. He hasn’t looked anywhere near being the lethal striker in the Premier League, that we know he has been in League One.

“But for him to go and play for a big club like Celtic, go and win trophies up there, get in the Champions League, I’m all for that.

“A lot of people think the Scottish League isn’t great, and competitive wise maybe it isn’t great but to go play in the Champions League with Celtic and win trophies, I’m all for it.

He added: “I think it’s a move he should seriously consider.”
