Stenhousemuir goal hero targets more cup shocks after late winner sinks Waterford

Mark McGuigan hit a last-gasp winner to send Stenhousemuir into the quarter-finals of the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup last week.

Now the Newlandsmuir man is eyeing another upset with Stenny's shock troops.

After knocking out Welsh champions The New Saints in round three, the Warriors beat Irish Premier League outfit Waterford 3-2 at Ochilview last Friday night.

McGuigan netted in the fourth minute of stoppage time to win and is dreaming of going even further, ahead of today's last eight draw.

He said: "It's another nice scalp for us and hopefully we get a good draw in the quarter-finals.

"I wasn't quite aware at the time how late the goal actually was, but that makes it a bit more dramatic.

"It was good to be on the right end of a last minute winner.

"We've surprised a few people - and our own supporters - with our results so far, so anything now is a bit of a bonus."

Stenny last reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2013, when they lost 1-0 to Rangers.

Standing in their way of a place in the semis will be one of Partick, Raith Rovers, Wrexham, Clyde, Elgin, Inverness and either Solihull Moors or Rangers Colts, who don't play their fourth round tie until October 29.

"We've had a look at the teams that have got through and there's no reason why we can't go and spring a shock again," said McGuigan, who has six goals for the Warriors this season.

"Being a League Two side, the further we progress the more we become underdogs so that suits us.

"We've not progressed that far in the competition that long, you almost treat it like a run out and a chance for guys to get games.

"The longer you stay in a competition the better and at the quarter-final stage you are going to have your sights set on going a bit further.

"We'll see what comes of the draw and hopefully we can come through it."
