Stena Line ferry delayed due to suspected Covid-19 case

A Stena Line ferry to Belfast was delayed at port after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

The 3.30 ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast was delayed and the member of staff was removed from the boat.

Other staff were tested for the virus, however, these tests coming back negative.

Stena Line have said that following discussions with Port Health, the vessel was deemed able to sail and passengers were to beginning to board at around 4.30pm.

A Stena Line spokesperson said: "A Staff member tested positive for Covid-19 before setting sail from Cairnryan today and was taken off the vessel. Following this the rest of the crew were tested and there were no more positive tests.

"Port Health have now confirmed we can sail and vessel can resume schedule."

Meanwhile, the Department of Health has reported a further 20 coronavirus related deaths in the last 48 hours.

According to the latest figures released on Twitter on Monday, a further 1,634 people have also tested positive for the virus.

The full dashboard of statistics including the number of patients in hospital and ICU beds will not be updated until December 29 the Department has said.
