Stena Line ferries cancelled due to technical fault

Two Stena Line ferries from Cairnryan and Belfast have been cancelled this evening due to a technical fault.

The ferry operator has issued a statement saying that the 7.30pm ferry from Cairnryan and the 11.30pm one from Belfast had to be cancelled due to a technical issue.

It is understood to be a problem with one of the boat's engines.

Stena Line has said that passengers will be accommodated on the next available and apologised for the delay and inconvenience.

All other sailings from the operator are unaffected.

A spokesperson said: "Urgent update for passengers sailing this evening from Cairnryan and Belfast. We are very sorry to inform you of a technical problem to our vessel Superfast 8, which has resulted in the cancellation of the 19:30 and 23:30 departures from Cairnryan and Belfast.

"Passengers will be accommodated on the next available sailing. Updates will also be sent by SMS to the mobile number on the booking. We sincerely apologise for the delay and the inconvenience this causes."
