Stella McCartney slammed for using photo of Meghan Markle at Remembrance service to flog coats

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been slammed for using a photo of Meghan Markle at the Remembrance Sunday service to promote its coats.

Instagram users have hit out at the brand for plugging the fact the Duchess wore its £1,545 black belted coat for the emotional memorial at the Cenotaph yesterday.

The post has been labelled "disrespectful" and "shocking", while others said they would be unfollowing the account.

Meghan teamed the wool coat with a wide-brimmed hat as she joined the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge, Camilla and other female members of the Royal Family on the balcony in Westminster to watch the service.

Princes Charles, William and Harry laid wreaths to honour those who gave their lives during the wars below.

Stella shared a photo of Meghan looking somber with the caption: "So honoured to have HRH Duchess of Sussex in our Autumn ‘19 coat at Remembrance Day service.⁣ x Stella⁣."

One follower wrote: "Using remembrance day to advertise your clothes is a little disrespectful!!

"People died and you take pictures of people showing respect for advertising purposes. Just wrong."

Another replied: "Remembrance day is to honour those that fought for us not to use for advertising purposes. Pretty shocked."

A third commenter wrote: "Nice - but not really a time to be advertising your clothes, Stella."

Earlier in the day Stella posted a video tribute to fallen soldiers to mark the annual memorial.

It shows poppies blowing in the wind and was captioned: "Remembering the ones that sacrificed to give us freedom x Stella."

She also posted Instagram stories of her at a war memorial.

Meghan stood with the Countess of Wessex and Sir Timothy Laurence for the service, while the Queen, Kate and Camilla looked on from a different balcony.

Some people were concerned this was due to the rumoured rift between the two families, but fears of negative tensions are unfounded because their positioning was due to precedence.

The Queen, Camilla and Kate are the three most senior women in the family, while Meghan is further down the line so didn't stand with them.

Meghan is a big fan of Stella's work and a stunning white dress she designed for the evening celebrations on her wedding day to Prince Harry.
