Stella McCartney gets sporty with new adidas kit for Arsenal women’s

Teaming up with adidas and Arsenal, London designer Stella McCartney has designed a 10 piece collection to boost the women’s football team style on and off the pitch.

The designs range from sports shirts and zip up hoodies to tracksuit pants and a new colourway for the Stella McCartney Ultraboost 22 trainers, which all come splashed with a blown up leopard print in the club’s iconic red, blue and white palette.

The looks will debut at the upcoming North London Derby match, where Arsenal Women’s team play Tottenham on Saturday March 26, before the fashion forward sportswear will be available to the public, in limited quantities, from Monday March 28.

When it comes to McCartney’s work, there is always an emphasis on sustainability and conscious consumption, and her sportswear is no exception. This kit comes in organic cotton, and is part-constructed from recycled materials.

Primarily though, McCartney is looking to the raise the profile of women in football. “As the most decorated English women’s football club, Arsenal Women is made up of incredible athletes, so to be able to celebrate them – especially in a year that is so pivotal for women in sport – is incredibly special,” the designer says. “We’re so excited to continue our journey into the world of football by creating our first travel wear collection for a team.”

“I love that we have fused statement leopard print, an iconic adidas by Stella McCartney graphic, with distinctive colours to truly bring the two worlds of fashion and football together in an authentic way,” McCartney continues, of the print sure to be unmissable in the Emirates Stadium. “We hope this collection inspires both current and the future generations of athletes.”

Vivianne Miedema, who is a striker for Arsenal, confirms the squad’s excitement. “It’s great to have a collection created for our team, and even more so that Stella McCartney has designed it,” she says. “The designs are amazing, and I can’t wait to wear the pre-match jersey on the pitch as we get into such an important time in the season.”

It comes as the latest step in an ongoing collaboration between the Stella McCartney brand and adidas, which first began in 2005 and now spans categories from running and training to yoga and swimwear.

McCartney is also known for designing the Team GB Olympic kits for both the London 2012 and Rio De Janeiro 2016 games, but this marks the first time adidas by Stella McCartney has worked with a women’s football team. And so the countdown to kick off begins.
