Stella McCartney calls to end 'horrendous' fur sales and imports as she backs Mirror campaign

Stella McCartney has joined calls to ban fur sales and imports, saying: “Barbarism knows no borders.”

The long-time animal rights supporter, whose fashion label has never used fur or leather, backed the Mirror’s Fur Free Britain campaign with the Humane Society International-UK.

Launching her autumn range in central London yesterday, she urged an end to the use of fur.

Stella, daughter of Beatles legend Paul, said: “Whether it’s being sold here in the UK or farmed globally, barbarism knows no borders, and this effort is key to my life’s mission of bringing a conscience to the fashion industry.

“I am proud to partner with Humane Society International. Please join us in ending this horrendous practice.”

A government consultation on the issue ends on June 28. Environment Secretary George Eustice urged Mirror readers to “share their views...which will help us determine future government policy”.

Last week Israel became the first country to ban fur sales.
