Stella McCartney accused of 'cashing in' on dad's fame with 'rip off' Beatles line

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been accused of "cashing in" on her dad’s legendary music career by launching a Beatles-inspired collection - with prices reaching £1,795.

The daughter of Sir Paul - who has run her own self-titled fashion brand since 2001 - created the ‘Get Back’ collection to coincide with the release of a new Disney + documentary by Peter Jackson.

But some Beatles fans have hit out at the 50-year-old designer saying her prices are too high for all but super rich followers of the famous hitmakers to afford.

On offer is a 'Get back' Beatles bomber jacket for £1,795 - inspired by Sir Paul’s wardrobe - and a Strawberry Fields-themed logo jumper for £895.

A jacquard tracksuit will set back the wearer £1,450, while a Get Back canvas tote is £495, while a black and white bucket hat is £225.

Other offerings are hoodies featuring the musicians’ images for £550, a Get Back Panelled Knit Coat for £1,350, silk scarves for £225 and socks - the cheapest item available - for £70.

Stella’s new clothing line was launched at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles with an A-list party that included appearances from Kate Hudson, Laura Dern and Orlando Bloom.

One Beatles fan said: "Stella McCartney cashing in on the Beatles’ Get back documentary (would seriously love a few of those though - anyone got £800?"

One said: "The cheapest thing in the Stella McCartney Beatles collab is this pair of socks that costs £70."

And another added: "Stella McCartney selling Beatles merch for absurd prices is actually really funny but it stops being funny now that I’ve realised I want this 995 cardigan."

And one said: "How are us true Beatles’ fans able to afford these?

"We would love to be able to show love for @ReaPeterJackson’s Get Back film even more by wearing these!

"Please make your clothing attainable for everyone @stellamcartney not just the wealthy @paulmccartney."

Stella, 50, says of her collection inspired by story behind the group: "Get Back is about so much more than just a song or a concert—it is the timeless story of lifelong friends coming together to create something incredible with laughter and utter fearlessness whilst standing at the forefront of change.

"The Beatles were the faces of a cultural movement for positive change that continues to shape the lives of millions around the world, and I hope this capsule celebrates and communicates these ageless messages to a new generation."
