Stella-drinking doctor's career on the line after leaving dad with life-changing injuries

A drunk doctor who inflicted life-changing injuries on a dad faces a fight to save her career.

Stella-drinking Julia Morch-Siddall sank over four cans in her Land Rover before smashing it head-on into IT consultant Wesley Hall.

The consultant anaesthetist avoided jail, a decision Mr Hall branded "disgraceful".

But the shamed doctor, who was aged 50 at the time she was sentenced last September, could now be struck off.

She faces a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing (MPTS) next month over the crash. The body decides if doctors are fit to pracitice.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Morch-Siddall, who has done work for the World Health Organisation, was "self-medicating" with alcohol as she battled a serious medical complaint and thoughts of suicide.

But after drinking the lager, Morch-Siddall was spotted veering out of control on the A1 in Gateshead, where she hit barriers and broke the speed limit.

What are the drink driving limits?

Witnesses claimed she looked "glazed and vacant" but she sped off, skipping a red light before careering into oncoming traffic towards Mr Hall - who had no chance of avoiding her.

He suffered multiple fractures and needed a wheelchair. When Morch-Siddall was sentenced, he faced the likelihood of lifelong disability.

Morch-Siddall admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen of breath.

The respected medic, from Heddon-on-the-Wall, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment which was suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

She is almost halfway through a three-year road ban.

But her victim, a dad-of-three from North Shields, revealed how the crash had cost him his job.

Mr Hall, aged 36 at the time of the crash, said: “I feel if it had been any other member of the public and not a doctor, she would have been facing jail time right now.”

Morch-Siddall could now lose her career at the MPTS hearing in Manchester, which starts on July 1.
