Stella-brewer InBev 'working on $46bn Anheuser bid'

Some Friday afternoon excitement in the brewing world, with reports that InBev, the Belgian group behind Bass, Stella Artois and Becks, is working on a $46bn (£23.2bn) offer for US rival Anheuser Busch.

The move, reported on FT Alphaville, would create a $100bn company, and sent shares in Anheuser climbing more than 6%. InBev is currently down around 2.5%.

Meanwhile rating agency Fitch issued a report saying that InBev and SABMiller, down 11p to £12.38, were the two of the world's four leading brewers which could drive forward consolidation in the sector. It said a merger between Anheuser and InBev would help address the US group's limited international presence.
