Stefano Pioli fears wounded Celtic as Milan boss shows Neil Lennon 'esteem and respect'

Milan boss Stefano Pioli has made clear his "esteem and respect" for Neil Lennon as he warned Celtic will be a wounded animal at San Siro.

The Parkhead manager is under severe pressure ahead of the Europa League clash with just two wins in the last 10 games.

Defeat to Ross County in the Betfred Cup on Sunday brought protests outside Celtic Park as fans called for Lennon to leave.

On Thursday Celtic face Italian giants Milan in a stadium where no Scottish side has ever won, having already been eliminated from the Europa League.

But the Rossoneri boss feels Sunday's scenes will only have fired up the visitors, as he admitted he's wary of a backlash at San Siro.

Pioli said: "I have esteem and respect for my colleague.

"I know he's done a good job. It can happen in our line of work that there are moments where you're not very lucky and the results don't come but Celtic have always put in good performances.

"For this reason we expect a very motivated opponent, very fired-up to win the game and show their worth.

"We need to be very careful tomorrow because we haven't sealed qualification yet.

"Tomorrow will be a tough game and we'll need to play really well.

"Unfortunately these situations are just part of our environment (as managers).

"I think that when these things happen teams find even more determination, even more will.

"So I'm sure we're going to encounter a very determined team, very fired-up, and we'll need to be well prepared for that."
