Stefanie Sherk dead: Model wife of Demian Bichir dies at home aged 37

Stefanie Sherk has died at the age of 37.

The Canadian model and actress died "peacefully" at home, her husband, actor Demian Bichir, confirmed in an emotional Instagram statement.

"Dear friends, on behalf of the Sherk and the Bichir Nájera families, it is with inconceivable pain that I announce that on April 20, 2019, our dearest Stefanie Sherk, my beloved and loving wife, passed away peacefully," he said.

"It has been the saddest and toughest time of our lives and we don't know how much time it will take for us to overcome this pain.

"Stefanie's beautiful, angelical and talented presence will be immensely missed. We will hold Stefanie in our hearts forever.

"We thank everybody beforehand for their prayers and we respectfully ask for your understanding so we may grieve in peace and privacy in these incredibly difficult times."

He added: "It is our sincerest hope that our beautiful Stefanie, my angel and love of my life, will rest in eternal peace."

Stefanie's cause of death is yet to be confirmed, and Bichir gave no further details about her health.

Demian's The Bridge co-star Diane Kruger offered her condolences, writing: "Oh Demian, I’m so sorry I had no idea. I’m sending you so much love in this difficult time."

A popular actor in Mexico, Demian also received condolences from Alfonso Herrera, Omar Chaparro, Jaime Camil, and Miguel Rodarte.

As well as singer-actress Lisset, who was married to Bichir from 2001 to 2003.

Demian and Stefanie met in 2011 and had no children together, he has a daughter Gala, born in the same year, following a brief relationship with an unknown woman.

The Mexican actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 2011 flick A Better Life and starred in Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, featured Stefanie in his directorial debut A Tale of Circus & A Love Song.

She also appeared in films Star Power, Ashton Kutcher film Valentine's Day and Loco Love.

In an Instagram post from December 2018, Demian spoke of the couple losing their dog Rudy after Stefanie rescued her as a young puppy from a pet store.
