Stefan Klos reveals freak Rangers training injury after Jorg Albertz thunderbolt that ended Dortmund return dream

Rangers legends Stefan Klos has lifted the lid on a blistering shot from Jorg Albertz that ruled him out of blockbuster clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Before enjoying a trophy-laden spell between the sticks at Ibrox, Klos lifted the Champions League and earned two Bundesliga titles with the German giants.

The last time the two sides met in 1999 in the UEFA Cup last 16, Klos was the undisputed Rangers number one but missed out on both legs of the clash.

He was denied a return to the Westfalenstadion through injury and missed the chance to make the difference in the penalty shoot-out that saw the Bundesliga outfit into the next round.

Klos has now revealed that it was a rocket from Albertz, nicknamed 'The Hammer', at close range that saw him miss the massive double header.

Speaking to the Dortmund club website, the retired stopper was asked why he was out for the previous showdown.

Klos responded: "(I had) A scaphoid fracture. From Jorg Albertz. A close-range shot in training. His left foot is well known."

When asked about the second leg, he added: "I was in the hospital, had an operation the day before and a screw was put in."

The 50-year-old was also coy on where his allegiances lie ahead of the Europa League playoff clash between the sides.

He added: "I hope for really exciting games. The better one should then prevail.

"I do think that BVB is favoured if both teams can play with their best players. I see the individual quality of the Borussia Dortmund players as higher.

"It will not be the names, but the greater will that will decide this duel."
