BENGALURU: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has asked academic institutions to stay away from unnecessary controversies. His remark comes in the light of the recent hijab row in the state. He said educational institutions should not encourage unnecessary controversies like the ones taking place in Karnataka.
Naidu was speaking during an event organised for the inauguration of L’atelier, an ensemble of fine arts and indoor sports arena at Greenwood High International School in Sarjapur on Saturday. Naidu said children are guided by the school uniform no matter whatever it is.
“India’s strength lies in the concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’,” he said, adding irrespective of caste, creed, sex, religion and region, we are all Indians. “As a nation, we have many languages, cultures and dresses. But our country is India and our identity is Indian. The idea of India and an Indian must come first and there shall not be any discrimination,” he said.
