Steep fines not enough

The carnage on Thailand's roads, ranked the second deadliest in the world in 2015, is driven by a wide range of factors. In a bid to lessen the horrific slaughter and improve road safety, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) recently came up with a harsh solution, aimed at keeping unlicensed drivers off the roads.

However, without effective and thorough law enforcement to tackle this and several other causes of traffic accidents, Thailand will continue to see deaths and injuries on its tollways, roads, pavements, zebra crossings and sois.

The DLT revealed this week that its proposal, the Land Transport Bill, has been sent to the cabinet for approval.
