Steelers WR Chase Claypool honored with Joe Greene Great Performance Award

The Pittsburgh chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America gave out their annual awards this week. One of those awards is the Joe Greene Great Performance Award given to the best Steelers rookie of the season. This year’s winner is wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Claypool came out of the gates fast for the Steelers. Through the first 11 weeks of the season, Claypool was making a case for Offensive Rookie of the Year with 11 total touchdowns. His size and speed were a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

Then the wall it. Whether it was by design or not, Claypool’s contributions have taken something of a nosedive in the last five games like the rest of the Steelers offense.

Claypool has all the makings of the next great Steelers wide receiver based on what we’ve seen so far this season. The Steelers 2020 draft class for the Steelers has been a mixed bad but despite Claypool winning this award, linebacker Alex Highsmith and guard Kevin Dotson have both been solid as well.
