Steelers won’t be short for leadership on defense in 2019

There has been a lot of talk this offseason about the leadership skills of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. But for all the criticism, the defense has ample leadership at every level. One guy who wants to join Cam Heyward and Joe Haden as the voices on the defense is linebacker T.J. Watt.

Watt spoke after practice this week and feels like in his third year he’s ready to step up and be more vocal on defense.

Watt led the team with 13 sacks in 2018. He quickly evolved into one of the most well-rounded linebackers in the NFL. His play spoke for itself with 68 total tackles and six forced fumbles to go with all those sacks.

The Steelers are going to lean heavily on Watt and the defense as they hope to get back to the playoffs in 2019. The front office has invested a ton into this side of the football and it is time for Watt and all the rest to play like it.
