Steelers vs Ravens: 3 matchups to watch this week

(AP Photo/Ben Margot)

When the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens this weekend it will be interesting to see how each team attacks the other’s weaknesses. Both teams have surprised the NFL but for very different reasons. Nevertheless, the Steelers have shown they can play good football and the Ravens have proven to be beatable.

Here are the three matchups we will be watching closely for the Steelers.

Steelers wide receivers vs Ravens cornerbacks

Baltimore is allowing more than 300 yards per game passing this season. They have been particularly susceptible to the big play. The Steelers have plenty of receivers capable of huge chunks of yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson and James Washington can all pull the top off a secondary so we hope the Steelers take some shots downfield.

The two-headed monster of Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram have the Ravens averaging over 200 rushing yards per game. It will be incumbent on linebackers Mark Barron, Devin Bush and Vince Williams to contain Jackson and Ingram and get off the field on third down.

It seems like forever since the Steelers had an answer for defending tight ends in the passing game. The Ravens have an excellent receiving tight end in Mark Andrews and we don’t want to see the Steelers defense make him look like Rob Gronkowski. Pittsburgh has two first-round picks at safety in Terrell Edmunds and Minkah Fitzpatrick and we want to see one of them step up and make some plays.
