Steelers vs. Rams Wednesday practice report: Bad news for running backs

The word of the week once again is injuries. On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers had their second practice of the week ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Rams and four players missed practice with injuries. Three more got veterans days off, while two others were limited.

Here’s the full practice report for Wednesday.

WR Ryan Switzer (Back) – DNP
RB Benny Snell Jr. (Knee) – DNP
RB Trey Edmunds (Ribs) – DNP
FB Roosevelt Nix (Knee) – DNP
LB Mark Barron (NIR) – DNP
TE Vance McDonald (NIR) – DNP
OL Maurkice Pouncey (NIR) – DNP
RB James Conner (Shoulder) – Limited
OL Ramon Foster (Concussion) – Limited

It’s good to see Conner and Foster able to do some work on Wednesday. For Foster, he remains in the concussion protocol, so despite getting some work in, he’s not playing until the NFL declares him fit to play.

As for Conner, he’s one of three running backs whose status is in jeopardy for the weekend. It’s great to see Conner getting some work on Wednesday, but with a shoulder injury, contact will dictate availability. He might go through the week, seem ready to go and one big hit in live-action parks him back on the bench.

We will know more about the status of Conner, as well as Edmunds and Snell, after Thursday’s practice. If both guys are still out, the Steelers could be forced to make a roster move in order to assure there are enough healthy backs on the roster to play.
