Steelers vs Patriots: New England dismantles Pittsburgh in dominating victory

The Pittsburgh Steelers would have loved to kick off the 2019 season with an upset of the New England Patriots on the road. Unfortunately, the Steelers went into New England completely flat and came out even flatter. The Patriots took the Steelers apart on both sides of the football en route to a 33-3 win.

Pittsburgh had essentially four months to prepare for this game and if this was the best they could do, it might be a long season. History said the Steelers would have a hard time winning this game. But I think most of us assumed Pittsburgh would at least put up a good fight.

However, when it came time to strap on their helmet and play football, the Steelers look completely outmatched. New England had 465 yards of offense and 24 first downs. On the other side of the football, Pittsburgh was only able to muster 309 yards of offense and 15 touchdowns.

Where do the Steelers go from here? Fortunately there is a ton of football to be played this season. And they do return home next week to take on the Seattle Seahawks. But it is rare to see a team with so much talent put together a performance like the one on Sunday night. Players and coaches alike need to reflect on what their role was in such a miserable performance.
