Steelers vs Patriots: midweek injury update

Going into the first game of the regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in good shape healthwise. Pittsburgh is preparing to take on the New England Patriots and as expected in Week One, both teams come into the game fairly healthy.

For the Patriots, they had three players limited at Wednesday’s practice. Tight end Matt LaCosse is listed as a starter but safety Obi Melifonwu and wide receiver Demarius Thomas are reserves on the depth chart.

As far as the Steelers go, starting safety Sean Davis did not practice on Wednesday as he continues to rehab from an ankle injury. Time is running out for Davis to be available for Sunday’s game. Head coach Mike Tomlin leans heavily on practice participation when it comes to game availability.

If Davis cannot go, look for former AAF star Kam Kelly to get his first NFL start. The Steelers signed Kelly after the league folded and he’s come in and been a real bright spot among the backup safeties.
