The Steelers traded receiver Sammie Coates and their 2019 seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the Browns' sixth-round pick in next year's draft.
The Steelers drafted Coates in the third round of the 2015 draft, but he struggled with injuries and inconsistencies in his game in his first two NFL seasons.
Coates had 22 receptions for 446 yards and two touchdowns for the Steelers, with the bulk of that production coming in the first five games of last season. Coates injured his fingers in a game against the Jets in October and later his groin, and he was relegated to mostly special-teams duties for the remainder of the season.
Coates' biggest problem was his hands. He struggled with drops since arriving in 2015.
