Steelers start slow, pull away late for win over the Giants

Aside from some miserable offensive line play in the first half, there isn’t much to complain about if you are a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. The Steelers came away with the 26-16 win to start the season 1-0.

The game marked the return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger It didn’t take long for Big Ben to get into a rhythm with his receivers, especially JuJu Smith-Schuster. Roethlisberger threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Smith-Schuster.

After James Conner went down with an ankle injury, Benny Snell Jr. jumped in at running back and the run game showed a spark. Snell finished with 113 rushing yards on only 19 attempts.

On defense it was business as usual for one of the best units in the league. The Steelers held Giants running back Saquon Barkley to just six yards on 15 carries, sacked Daniel Jones three times and intercepted him twice.

This was exactly the start the Steelers needed aside from the injuries and should give them some momentum heading into their home opener next week against the Denver Broncos.
