Steelers sign their ex-punter in wake of Pressley Harvin injury

It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Houston Texans, possibly without the services of punter Pressley Harvin III. In his weekly press conference, Mike Tomlin noted that Harvin is dealing with a hamstring injury. The team announced on Wednesday that they’ve brought back a familiar face, signing Brad Wing to the practice squad.

Wing played for Pittsburgh in 2014, punting 61 times for 2,668 yards. Per Steelers.com, he landed 20 attempts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Should they need him, hopefully, punting is like riding a bike because he hasn’t performed professionally in five years when he was with the New York Giants.

The Steelers have punted the most in the NFL (19), so Harvin’s had his work cut out for him. He had a rough go of things in Week 1 but bounced back nicely the past couple of games and is averaging 47.2 yards per punt.

Hamstrings are tricky, and punters kinda need them. There’s no sense in sending a sub-100 percent Harvin out there with Brad waiting in the wings. It’s better to have him rest in preparation for the Baltimore Ravens, especially with the bye week around the corner.
