Steelers sign rookie Isaiah Buggs to 4-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers began signing their 2019 NFL draft class on Tuesday. Pittsburgh reported their first rookie signings via their Twitter account on Tuesday. One of the rookies they got under contract was defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs.

Buggs was one of the team’s three sixth-round picks out of Alabama. He’s a player defensive line coach Karl Dunbar knows well having come to the Steelers from the Crimson Tide.

Here’s what Buggs had to say about Dunbar as a coach.

He’s a great coach. He’s taught me everything I know, the ins and outs. Great leader, and I’m just ready to go to work for him again. He knows I’m a hard worker. He knows I’m willing to do anything and everything to get the job done. And that’s what I’m going to do.

Despite being a day three pick, Buggs has a real shot to make the final 53-man roster. He’s got a ton of experience in the 3-4 defense and is adept at working inside or outside. If he can just be better than Dan McCullers has been he should have no trouble supplanting him.
