Steelers sign QB Devlin Hodges to practice squad

After trading quarterback Joshua Dobbs, you knew the Pittsburgh Steelers would need to address their No. 3 quarterback position. But it seems for the time being they are doing so in a rather unique way by their standards. Instead of signing quarterback Devlin Hodges to the 53-man roster, they are instead adding him to the practice squad instead.

This was likely done for a couple of reasons. First, it all allows the Steelers to keep an extra player on the 53-man roster who might play. Pittsburgh signed outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott to fill Dobbs’ spot on Tuesday.

But this could also just be temporary. The Steelers have traditionally carried three quarterbacks even though the third one never dressed for games. It isn’t likely Hodges is going to garner any attention from other teams so unless the Steelers have an injury, Hodges could stay safely tucked away on the practice squad.
