Steelers sign P Jordan Berry to a new two-year contract

Just hours before the official start of free agency, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have signed punter Jordan Berry to a new two-year contract. Berry has been with the Steelers for the past four seasons.

Berry has been wildly inconsistent during his career. His 43.8-yard career average is respectable but the number requires some context. Berry is just as likely to hit a 65-yard punt as he is to hit a 35-yard punt. It’s the unknown that makes his signing somewhat questionable.

Nevertheless, Pittsburgh clearly decided going with what they know, even if it isn’t ideal is better than diving into the unknown. Pittsburgh is sure to bring in at least one punter for camp and there’s always a chance someone could beat him out. Berry came to the Steelers in 2015 and beat out Brad Wing for the starting spot.
