Steelers sign LB Ulysees Gilbert III to a 4-year contract

Perhaps the most interesting pick of the 2019 NFL draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers was former Akron linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III. His level of production and athleticism he displayed in college was well above that of many linebackers taken ahead of him. So when the Steelers landed him on the third day it felt like a real bargain.

The team announced on Thursday they had signed Gilbert to a four-year contract. This leaves only first-round pick LB Devin Bush and third-round pick CB Justin Layne as unsigned.

In reviewing some of Gilbert in college, his ability to impact a football game in multiple ways. For his career, Gilbert averaged 9.5 tackles per game and even in games where he didn’t have huge numbers, was still seemingly always around the football.
