Steelers sign free agent Steven Nelson to three-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers recognized their top offseason need was cornerback and it didn’t take long for them to address it in free agency. Nothing is official until tomorrow but according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the Steelers have agreed in principle on a three-year contract with cornerback Steven Nelson.

Nelson started all 16 games last season and hauled in four interceptions. Nelson also had 68 total tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, Nelson was the No. 33 cornerback in the league last season.

Nelson’s contract is worth $25.5 million and considering the need is a bargain. Nelson will have every opportunity to be the starter opposite Joe Haden. This signing could be the push Artie Burns needs in the final year of his rookie contract.
