Steelers sign former Titans LB Robert Spillane to reserve/futures contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers added both a running back and linebacker to the roster on Friday.

In addition to former Falcons rusher Malik Williams, the Steelers also added former Titans linebacker Robert Spillane. Both players entered the NFL last season as undrafted free agents.

Spillane was cut from Tennessee’s preseason roster before being signed to the team’s practice squad. In Week 6, the Titans promoted him to the active roster, where he played a role on special teams for two games.

The Titans ultimately made the decision to part ways with Spillane, releasing him on Oct. 29. The team signed fullback Jalston Fowler, who would also go on to be released, on the same day.

Ironically, perhaps the biggest play of Spillane’s career came on his Week 3 preseason interception against the Steelers.

It will be interesting to see how the Steelers utilize Spillane heading into the 2019 season.
