Steelers shut out of 2019 compensatory NFL draft picks

The NFL finalized the draft order for 2019 with the awarding of the 32 compensatory picks. These picks are determined based on free agents lost and signed. With the minimal amount of movement Pittsburgh had in free agency last offseason, they were shut out from getting any of the picks from the pool.

Pittsburgh has had some good luck with compensatory picks in the past. Offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum, wide receiver Hines Ward and cornerback William Gay are probably the three most successful picks for Pittsburgh to come from compensatory picks. But linebacker Mike Vrabel, running back Amos Zeroue and offensive lineman Willie Colon also qualify.

The Steelers should be able to look forward to a third-round compensatory pick in 2020. When running back Le’Veon Bell signs his massive new contract it should get the Steelers a pick. Unless of course Pittsburgh goes out and adds a significant free agent of their own. But since we all understand this isn’t really how Pittsburgh operates, there’s little fear of it happening.
