Steelers selecting pre-drafting visitors trending downward

As you pore over the list of pre-draft visitors for the Pittsburgh Steelers, you might be wondering if there is any correlation between visitors and them actually being chosen by Pittsburgh. This sent us back into the past and we discovered a trend. Over the past several seasons, the number of pre-draft visitors being chosen by the Steelers has dropped.

Here’s how it has broken down over the last five years.

2018

Marcus Allen, safety

2017

James Conner, running back

Josh Dobbs, quarterback

2016

Sean Davis, safety

Jerald Hawkins, offensive tackle

Javon Hargrave, defensive tackle

2015

Sammie Coates, wide receiver

Senquez Golson, cornerback

Jesse James, tight end

Doran Grant, cornerback

2014

Stephon Tuitt, defensive end

Ryan Shazier, linebacker

Martavis Bryant, wide receiver

Shaq Richardson, cornerback

Rob Blanchflower, tight end

Jordan Zumwalt, linebacker

What this shows is a steady decline in the number of pre-draft visitors actually being selected by the Steelers. But there are two ways to look at it. This trend could mean the Steelers are doing their due diligence and passing on more players based on the information they glean from the visits.

Or it could be Pittsburgh has transitioned to looking more closely at marginal prospects and less on top-tier guys, which makes passing on them less of an issue. Which 2019 pre-draft visitors do you think the Steelers will select?
