Steelers select Alabama DL Isaiah Buggs in the 6th round of NFL draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers used their second pick of the sixth round to add depth along with defensive line with Alabama defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs. Buggs was a recruit of current Steelers defensive line coach Karl Dunbar when he was coaching for the Crimson Tide.

Buggs checks in at 6-foot-3 and 306 pounds. His frame doesn’t look like it can carry a lot more weight so he might trim back a bit to work consistently as a five-technique. Buggs was very good as a starter in 2018 with 9.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. He’s a powerful bull rusher who works better inside and can move laterally with surprising quickness and agility.

Buggs should be in the mix to get rotational snaps right away with Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu on the outside.
