Steelers rookie WR Diontae Johnson takes 1st-team reps at OTAs

One of the top priorities for the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason has been to fill the void left when wide receiver Antonio Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders. the first move was to sign veteran Donte Moncrief in free agency. But perhaps the more interesting move was the choice of Diontae Johnson in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft.

Steelers reporter Chris Adamski reported on Tuesday Johnson spent his time lining up on the outside for most of his reps. This is significant in that Johnson is a smallish wide receiver very much in the mold of Brown.

Going back and watching Johnson when he was at Toledo, he did most of his damage on the inside. But with a third-round investment in him, Pittsburgh is going to push to see if Johnson can line up on the boundary and use his speed and quickness against bigger cornerbacks.
