Steelers remain one of the 50 most valuable sports franchises according to Forbes

The Pittsburgh Steelers are celebrating their 100th season this year. They are the oldest franchise in the AFC and one of the most storied franchises in all of professional sports. And according to Forbes, they are also one of the most valuable franchises.

Every year Forbes puts out their list of the 50 most valuable professional sports franchises and the Steelers checked in this year at No. 30. Here are the numbers according to Forbes.

  • Value: $2.59 billion
  • 1-Year % Change: 5%
  • Owners: Daniel Rooney Trust, Art Rooney II
  • Operating Income: $85 million

As a point of comparison, the Dallas Cowboys are No. 1 on the list with a value of $5 billion. The No. 50 team on the list is the New Orleans Saints with a value of $2.08 billion. The Steelers are actually up one spot over last year.

The value of Pittsburgh is made even more remarkable when you consider Art Rooney purchased the team back in 1933 for only $2,500.
