Steelers banged up with Smith-Schuster questionable, Conner out

The Steelers will already be without running back James Conner, but might they also not have JuJu Smith-Schuster. Pittsburgh released its final injury report of the week on Friday and Smith-Schuster was a surprising addition to the list.

He popped up on the report with a foot injury and is listed as questionable. He was limited in practice, so it’s probably not a huge concern, but the severity of his injury remains unclear.

Smith-Schuster leads the team in receptions (33), yards (459) and is tied for first with three touchdown catches.

He’s been targeted 51 times, which is 11 more than the next-closest player, Diontae Johnson. If Smith-Schuster can’t play, the Steelers will be left extremely thin at wide receiver.

James Washington is the No. 3 wideout, but he has just 14 catches for 230 yards in seven games. Ryan Switzer has played all eight games but only has eight catches for 27 yards on the year.

There are even greater concerns in the backfield with Conner, Roosevelt Nix and Benny Snell Jr. all out for this game. That means it’ll be Jaylen Samuels handling the bulk of the carries, with Trey Edmunds contributing some, too.

Starting guard Ramon Foster is also out with a concussion, which significantly hurts the offensive line.
