Steelers recognize the need for more explosive plays on offense

The NFL is skewed heavily toward the passing offense. The rules have been tweaked to give the passing game a significant advantage over opposing defenses. But having said that, the Pittsburgh Steelers passing offense has been abysmal in 2019. Part of this can be attributed to the absence of Ben Roethlisberger.

But some of the responsibility just falls on the players still on the team who aren’t making plays downfield. Quarterback Mason Rudolph and offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner both acknowledged the team has failed to get enough explosive plays and both feel like they have to take advantage of their opportunities more often.

The problem with this is, I’m not sure which skill players on the team are going to do their part. Guys like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson and James Washington need to work harder and give Rudolph more looks.

I want to pass the question off to you. The Steelers get the lowly Dolphins this week. How will the team finally find a way to make some plays downfield?
