Steelers re-sign LB Anthony Chickillo to 2-year contract

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday night the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to go with what they know at outside linebacker. Schefter is reporting the Steelers and outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo have agreed to a new two-year contract worth $8 million.

Chickillo has been a special teams stud for the last four seasons but a complete non-factor on defense. In fact, in 54 career games, Chickillo only has seven sacks. It might make you wonder what would prompt Pittsburgh to give him a raise. None of it makes any sense but the Steelers are probably hopeful year five will finally be the year Chickillo gets it as a pass rusher.

The Steelers also have Ola Adeniyi and Keion Adams on the roster, both of which show more promise as pass rushers. But with keeping Chickillo in the fold, it pushes them both bad on the depth chart. Could this be a move in advance of the Steelers pulling back Bud Dupree’s fifth-year option? Time will tell but as of now, this move feels a little desperate.
